TIFF'09 Awards
The ballots are tallied and the juries have spoken now the 2009 TIFF Award Winners including People's Choice and Fipresci Prizes have been announced:
The People's Choice Award went to Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
1st Runner-Up: Mao's Last Dancer
2nd Runner-Up: Micmacs / Micmacs à tirelarigot
The People's Choice for Midnight Madness went to The Loved Ones
1st Runner Up: Daybreakers
The People's Choice Award for Documentary went to The Topp Twins
1st Runner Up: Capitalism: A Love Story
The Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize) for Discovery went to Laxmikant Shetgoankar for The Man Beyond the Bridge
The Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize) for Special Presentation went to Bruno Dumont for Hadewijch
The Award for Best Canadian Short Film went to Pedro Pires for Danse Macabre
Honourable mention to Jamie Travis for The Armoire
The Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film went to Alexandre Franchi for The Wild Hunt
The Award for Best Canadian Feature Film went to Ruba Nadda for Cairo Time
Special Jury Citation to Bernard Émond's La Donation / The Legacy
I'll discussed a few of my faves in my Day 10 Vlog and will sum up shortly in my Wrap Up post. Films that I heard a the most positive buzz on were The Loved Ones, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Air Doll, Mr. Nobody and Enter the Void.
