2011 MTV Movie Awards Winners

The MTV Movie Awards were broadcasted on Sunday June 5, 2011 and I was oddly in the States at the time but didn't get a chance to see them (you can rewatch them streaming in the US here and in Canada here), but I couldn't wait to see who were this years winners. Twilight fans will be happy as the films have consistently won best movie, best kiss and best female performance (Kristen Stewart) for the past three years including this years wins for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Little surprized to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse win over Inception for Best Fight, but even odder is that the fight nominated from The Fighter wasn't a boxing match but rather Amy Adams & the sisters. Ah, these awards certainly keep me on my toes! Big kudos to Tom Felton who has won best villain for 2 years running for his performance as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series including this years win for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1; and also big congratulations to Chloe Grace Moretz who won 2 awards: best breakout star & biggest badass star winner for Kick-Ass.

2010 MTV Movie Awards Winners

I was about to start this off saying that I don't normally watch the MTV Movie Awards but a browse through the archives tells a little bit of a different story as I did write about them last year. And here I am again. Rut-roh, this will be 2 years in a row and usually anything I do 2 years in a row becomes tradition. We'll see if I keep it up in 2011. But, enough about award watching habits in the past and future, let's take a look at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Winners!

It doesn't come to a huge surprize to see that The Twilight Saga: New Moon won all the awards for categories it was nominated in including Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson), Best Kiss (Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson) and Best Film for a total of 4 wins. Next most wins is actually not for a film but a person as Robert Pattinson won 3 awards, 2 mentioned above along with the Global Superstar award. Also in a Twilight-relatedness, Anna Kendrick won for Breakout Star for her performance in Up in the Air. That's a lot of Twi-ness. I think my favourite line of the night was Peter Facinelli while accepting for Best Movie for The Twilight Saga: New Moon made the censors go loony during his speech, but said he wouldn't swear when thanking Stephenie Meyer as she is a Mormon. How sweet. Speaking of sweet, Ken Jeong's acceptance speech for Best WTF Moment for The Hangover was extremely touching and in high contrast to award he was accepting it for, but it still worked. I was thrilled to see Tom Felton win for Best Villain in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, well deserved win there!

Aziz Ansari was a very entertaining host for the show and in contrast to other award shos the winners here were more than happy to have very short acceptance speeches. The show did and live cast did run just a minute or two long, but overall held together quite well and was very entertaining. Two of the biggies of the night were seeing clips from upcoming films The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. I can't believe we are already at the stage where we are seeing Harry Potter clips... I ran from the room and will again do my best not to see anything about the film until I'm happily sitting in the theatre in November later this year.

2009 MTV Movie Awards Winners - Twilight Sweeps & New Moon Trailer Revealed

The MTV Movie Awards 2009 were live Sunday night and it was interesting to watch the only awards show that doesn't have an announcement from the president or the people with the briefcases walk in. But like every awards show we still get to find out the winners. Sweeping the night was Twilight, which won in 5 out of 6 categories it was nominated in including Best Fight, Kiss, Breakthrough Performance Male (Robert Pattinson), Performance Female (Kirsten Stewart) and Best Movie. In fact the only nominations that did not turn to awards were Best Song (winner: Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Breakthrough Performance Male for Taylor Lautner showing that Team Edward is still running strong. Beyond the awards themselves the big news for Twilight fans was the first trailer for New Moon (see trailer here on MTV Site, or a larger version over at Twilight Lexicon).

Other hyped moments from the show including new footage from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince but Twilight and New Moon ruled the night. Twitter was going wild during the ceremony from the Slumdog/Twilight intro mashup, through the kiss fake out to the numerous thanks to the fans, and my personal favourite was Kirsten Stewart knocking over her award during the Best Female Performance and then gracefully continuing. She's awesome.
