68th Golden Globe Winners (for 2010 Year)

Well, they came, they saw, we tweeted and they conquered. The 68th Golden Globes were hosted tonight by Ricky Gervais and although The King's Speech was in the lead in terms of nominations, it was The Social Network that went home with 4 awards, the most of any film this year. The Social Network took home Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, Score and Screenplay. Then ringing in at 2 wins each was The Kids Are All Right (Best Motion Picture & Best Actress [Annette Bening] - Comedy or Musical) and The Fighter (Best Supporting Actor [Christian Bale] and Actress [Melissa Leo]). The King's Speech did take home an award via Colin Firth for Best Actor - Drama and Black Swan rounded out the acting wins with Natalie Portman winning Best Actress - Drama.

A few surprizes of the evening including 2 wins for films had multiple nominations in the same category: The Kids Are All Right with both Annette Bening and Julianne Moore up for Best Actress and The Fighter with both Melissa Leo and Amy Adams up for Best Supporting Actress. Usually 2 noms in the same category seem to cancel each other out, but not this year - and I'm glad. Both Melissa Leo and Annette Bening gave fantastic acceptance speeches which were some of my favourite moments of the night, especially when Annette Bening first thanked her partner Julianne Moore and then also the "1962 Golden Globe Winner for Most Promising Actor: Warren Beatty." And Melissa Leo was charming when she exclaimed "All that and Kissed by Jeremy Irons!" Beautiful moments.

More great moments of the night included some really cute flustering, including Andrew Garfield stumbling during introing The Social Network and Jim Parsons thanking "his" writers for while accepting his award for Big Bang Theory. It was also great to see Diane Warren win for "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" for Burlesque, and specifically for thanking Cher for being the "eternal bad ass that you are" and fighting to keep the song in the film.

We also got a fair share of giggle as well, I particularly enjoyed Tina Fey and Steve Carrell witty presentation and I want to see Matt Damon in comedy now after his great intro for Robert De Niro's Cecil B. DeMille Award.

But the speech most Canadians will be remembering will be Paul Giamatti for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for in Barney's Version where he spoke lovingly of Montreal, the family of Mordecai Richler, and "the Great Nation of Canada". That might just get me to see the film.

Last but not least, interesting to note that no awards when to the critic & crowd pleaser Inception. I really thought it would win for score for the very least. Some times you never can tell!
