Guest Podcasting: Saturday B Movie Reel #8 - Sharktopus

Photobucket
Sharktopus Image - Courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment

I recently had the pleasure of guesting on the Saturday B Movie Reel Podcast over at Tuning into SciFi TV to chat up a storm about the SyFy original film Sharktopus with host Kevin Bachelder. I have to say, we had a heck of a good time chatting about all the craziness of the film and of course rating it on the awesome B Movie Reel scale which includes categories from cheese factor to death scenes, and well... even acting!

It's a spoiler-filled discussion, so if you haven't already seen Sharktopus (what are you waiting for??? You should see it!), I do recommend watching it first and then listening in as we giggles and cheers over the B Movie awesomeness.

Martial arts films often follow tournaments or competitions, the fight against injustice and often can be historically set.
  • Wikipedia Definition of Martial Arts: Martial arts (literally meaning arts of war[1] but usually referred as fighting arts) are extensive systems of codified practices and traditions of combat. Martial arts all have similar objectives: to physically defeat other persons or defend oneself or others from physical threat. Some martial arts are also linked to beliefs systems such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism or Shinto while others follow a secular code of honor. Martial arts are considered as both an art and a science. Many arts are also practiced competitively, most commonly as combat sports, but competitions may also take the form of "forms competition."

Sport Film as a Genre Show Notes
  • Shannon definition of Sport Films: Sport films are a subgenre of film where the central focus of the film is on an athlete, sports team, sporting event or competition. They can fall under the larger genres of drama, comedies, historical films, biopics or documentaries
  • Wiki description: "This list of sports films is a compilation of films in the genre covering sports activities. Sports movies have been made since the era of silent films, such as the 1915 film The Champion starring Charlie Chaplin. Films in this genre can range from serious (Raging Bull) to silly (Horse Feathers). A classic theme for sports films is the triumph of an individual or team who prevail despite the difficulties. Men often identify with sports films in ways they wouldn't with other genres, such as spy films."
