Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: David Blue

In anticipation for the third season premiere of the Dearie Award winning Ugly Betty this week, our Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week is David Blue! Mr. Blue is better known around these parts (and the Mode offices) as Cliff St. Paul, Marc's photog beau and (according to an MD Poll earlier this year) your favorite guy on our favorite show.

David is a New Yorker by birth and currently resides in beautiful downtown Burbank. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting/Musical Theatre from the University of Central Florida, so you know he's ready for that Betty musical episode they keep teasing us about (and yes, we would love a love song for Marcliff). Other TV shows you may have seen him on include Moonlight, Dirt and Veronica Mars, and he also starred in the films The Comebacks, This Can't Be My Life and Winter Follies.

Congratulations, David! For your wonderfully endearing performance as a regular (gay) Joe, you are this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: Mego Museum

If you were a child of the 70's, then you grew up with the wondrous works of Mego. Dominating the toy business during the disco decade, the Mego Corporation produced popular lines of 8-inch action figures based on DC and Marvel comic book characters (known as the "World's Greatest Super Heroes") as well as such movies and television shows as The Planet of the Apes, Space: 1999, Star Trek and The Wizard of Oz.

Mego found even more success when they branched out into 12 ½-inch dolls inspired by such celebrities as Sonny and Cher (complete with Bob Mackie designed wardrobe!), Farrah Fawcett, Diana Ross and even the Captain and Tennille, plus new lines based on the Wonder Woman TV show and Superman movie.

Alas, Mego's downfall came when they turned down a deal to produce the Star Wars action figures, leaving the door open for Kenner to come in and make a gazillion dollars (and counting) off that series of films. Mego tried to compete with tie-in merchandise to all the sci-fi movies that were released in the wake of Star Wars (such as Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The Black Hole and Star Trek: The Motion Picture) as well as their own Micronauts line, but the company ultimately folded in 1983.

However, Mego's legacy lives on at the Mego Museum, an awesomely nostalgic walk down memory lane with quite a few surprises along the way (who knew there was toys based on The Love Boat, complete with Pacific Princess play set?).

The Museum even has their own MySpace page to share the fun ... subscribe to their blog, and you'll be treated to a daily blast from the past with their "Mego of the Day". Such recent toys featured include Doctor Kromedome, the Human Torch, Ralph Malph and Grandma Walton.

For all they do to keep our fond childhood memories alive, the Mego Museum has been chosen as the latest Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week! Congratulations!

And while you're over at the Mego Museum's space, stop by The Official Movie Dearest MySpace Page to check out the latest Weekly Recap, including MySpace exclusive picture for all of last week's big stories!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: The Bad Idea Bears

This week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friends of the Week are the Bad Idea Bears! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

If you're a fan of the Broadway hit musical Avenue Q, then you already know about these two little fluffy buggers; if not, I'll let them describe themselves: "We are the cutest puppets of your subconscious minds ... We look like a cross between Snuggle and the Care Bears, but we act like we're taking orders straight from Chucky. We're a cute, cuddly version of the little devil that whispers evil thoughts in your ear. Only, we're two-teaming it, and there's no little angel around for balance ... our bouncy, high-pitched voices urge you to do the not-so-smart thing with so much enthusiasm, it might even seem like a good idea at the time! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!"

What are they doing on MySpace? Well, they're looking for some fresh victims ... oops, I mean new friends, such as unconvincing drag queens, sluts, closeted high school jocks, Republicans who still adore George W., washed out porn actors, understudies that never went on during a run and lactose intolerant Starbucks drinkers that always get the runs after coffee. Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

Their interests include Long Island ice teas, Costco food samples, film actresses that once played the overweight best friend of the leading lady, Polka music, movies that go straight to video, Michael Jackson TV specials and Ann Coulter books (because they're all bad ideas). Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

But I hate to tell you, Bears: you know what is not such a bad idea? Being the latest Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

And while you're over at the Bear's space, stop by The Official Movie Dearest MySpace Page to check out the latest Weekly Recap, including MySpace exclusive picture for all of last week's big stories!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: Disgruntled Stormtrooper

We've all been there ... the evil intergalactic corporation you work for goes belly up thanks to a pesky do-gooder rebellion, and you find yourself without a job. It's enough to make anybody a little cranky; just take a look at our pal, the Disgruntled Stormtrooper.

Since the fall of the Empire, ol' Stormie here has tried his hand at various odd jobs (Burger King, used car salesman, Hooters) and even landed the odd movie role or two (Saturday Night Trooper, Troopsie, Brokeback Trooper). His ever-continuing quest for a steady paycheck has gained him his own little niche of celebrity, however, allowing him to collaborate with such musical superstars as Aerosmith, Elton John and Dolly Parton. Stormie even has met a few of his personal heroes, including David Hasselhoff, Don Johnson and Mr. Steven Seagal.

Alas, with all that fame and no fortune to show for it, he still lives up to his name. But cheer up, Disgruntled Stormtrooper! You are this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

And while you're over at Stormie's space, stop by The Official Movie Dearest MySpace Page to check out the latest Weekly Recap, including MySpace exclusive picture for all of last week's big stories!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: Deep Dish

The fellow peering out from over the book cover is Marc Harshbarger (a.k.a. Deep Dish), a talented writer, pop culture raconteur and brand new blogger from Chic-a-go-go, Illinois. And he is also this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

From the groovy Starsky & Hutch picture on his profile to the sounds of the Partridge Family's greatest hits on his Playlist, Deep Dish had me at "Add to Friends". The fact that he named one of his cats Mr. Grant only further sealed the deal, not to mention our shared affinity toward the dramatic works of Mr. Gregory Harrison.

In addition to being the critically acclaimed author of the tasty slice of 70's nostalgia Deep Dishand its sequel Deeper Dish, Marc has also recently launched his own blog, also titled Deep Dish. There you will delight in such "groovy thoughts of a gay writer" as the cinematic greatness of Annie Hall to the vice presidential capabilities of Miss Lesley Gore, plus a chance to vote for your favorite bitches and beefcakes.

Aside from all that grooviness, Marc is an all-around swell guy and it is my extreme pleasure to introduce his talents to you!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: B-Movie Babe

She's creepy, she's kooky, but not at all ooky ... she's the B-Movie Babe, and she's the latest Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

With leopard skin wallpaper and awe-inspiring collections of vintage movie posters and trashy trailers, hers is a space you want to hang out at if you too are a lover of the fine art of bad movies (bad movies we love, that is). Naturally, her heroes are John Waters and Russ Meyer, the patron saints of bad taste, and you gotta love a gal who loves Pee-Wee, Eraserhead and Glen ... or Glenda.

From biker flicks to splatter films, from blaxploitation to sexploitation, from "Space beyond space" to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and beyond, B-Movie Babe celebrates them all. And that is what makes her this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week; as the Freaks would say, "Gooble gobble, gooble gobble ... One of us, one of us ... "

And while you're over at the Babe's space, stop by The Official Movie Dearest MySpace Page to check out the latest Weekly Recap, including MySpace exclusive picture for all of last week's big stories!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: Norma Desmond

Who knew that after all these years, the greatest star of them all, famed silent movie queen Norma Desmond (remember her? She used to be big) has made a comeback ... oops, a return ... and can be found, not on Sunset Boulevard, but on MySpace.

Ever eager to grace her adoring public (those wonderful people out there in the dark) with her glamorous presence (she is, you will recall, always ready for that close up), Miss Desmond lists among her interests guns, swimming and astrology, but not reading ... after all, who needs words when you got a face like that. Oh, and sorry boys, but she's taken; her current beau is a hunky screenwriter named Joe, who likes to tease her by playing dead in the pool. What a scamp ... and what a catch! She would just go nuts if he left her, you know.

So congratulations, Norma: Dig up that chimp, put on your best dress (white or pink ... maybe red ... yes, bright flaming red! Make it gay!) and take another tango on the tiles ... you are this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

And while you're over at Norma's space, stop by The Official Movie Dearest MySpace Page to check out the latest Weekly Recap, including MySpace exclusive picture for all of last week's big stories!

Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week: Rocketboy

Since launching our own MySpace page several months ago, Movie Dearest has had the pleasure of "meeting" many new friends -- almost 2,000 to date. Ranging from MD readers and fan-hosted "star pages" to fictional characters and movie/TV/theater fansites to actual celebrities and (go figure) porn stars, we have, to say the least, a very diverse set of acquaintances over at our second online home.

So to spotlight some of our "best" friends, we are introducing today a new weekly feature right here at MD (and "simulcast" on our MySpace blog): the MySpace Friend of the Week. (Our first idea was "Friend of the Month", but with 1,941 pals and counting, we'd never get through 'em all.) The purpose of this is, like the song goes, to "thank you for being a friend", and also to introduce these fine folks to possible new friends who like what they see. We sure do.

The criterion for being named FOTW is simple: standing out from the crowd. This may be through creativity in design and content of their pages, a certain level of humor about the whole "MySpace thing" (which, let's face it, is kind of silly when you get right down to it) and a true sense of friendship by way of comments and interactivity. That or they have a real hot picture.

Our first FOTW is Rocketboy, and he has all those qualities ... and a killer set of abs to boot (check out his peek-a-boo costume). Out of all the hotties that we discovered through our coverage of Comic-Con, he is definitely the hottiest. But he's more then just a pretty face and a rockin' bod, he's a superhero. Star of his own eponymous comic book (set to debut this October), Robby fights the Forces of Evil in his hometown of San Francisco. His rogues gallery includes his own mommie dearest, would-be Ruler of the Universe Queen Cherry, and the enigmatic GoGoBot (whose weapons include laser nipples and a hypnotic hip thrust). Of his many heroic deeds, likely his bravest was when he saved Christina Crawford from a runaway shopping cart. And that, my friend, truly makes you super in our book.

You can learn more about the adventures of Rocketboy (and his creators, Scotty Mullen and Michael Troy) at his official website, RocketboyWorld.com, and can befriend him right here at his MySpace page. While you're over there, stop by the official MD page and check out the latest weekly recap; in addition to the top ten stories of the past seven days, you can view exclusive MySpace-only pictures, such as more Comic-Con hunks and the Mamma Mia! boys gone wild.

And don't forget to become a friend of MD yourself, if you're not already. Who knows? You may find yourself the next Movie Dearest Friend of the Week!
